Site Supervision

Whether implementing on-site management, delivering toolbox talks and briefings to contractors, providing an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), carrying out species translocations, or implementing licensing works and creating habitat enhancements, we work alongside our partners to ensure that projects proceed efficiently.

Site Supervision

The ECoW will typically be present at the outset of works, and forms an integral component of the delivery team. They ensure that all relevant personnel are aware of the role of the ecologist, the legal protection afforded to the relevant protected species or habitats on site, the features and areas within the works area that are subject to the site supervision or method statement, and the prescriptions of the site supervision itself.

While on site, they will often be required to: identify and advise on the protection of ecologically sensitive or valuable features; provide advise to assist with legislative and planning policy compliance; assist with the planning and implementation of ecological mitigation, in a manner that minimises the risk of unexpected delays, costs, or adverse public perceptions; provide leadership and management of other ecological specialists working on site; and interpret and assist with the application of precautionary methods of work, or other site-specific methodologies, relating to the ecological constraints on site.

They will typically undertake an update inspection of the zone of influence, immediately prior to the commencement of works. They may then remain on site, forming an integral element of the on-site supervisory team throughout the duration of the works, or hand over to a designated site representative, and remain available on an 'on-call' basis at all stages of works.

Glade Ecology's experienced ecologists are experts in providing pragmatic on-site supervision strategies for our clients, ensuring that projects proceed efficiently, while avoiding potentially costly and time-consuming delays.

When

Though on-site supervision may be necessary throughout the lifespan of a project, depending on the nature of the ecological constraints on site, it is typically a fundamental component at the outset of works.
